What is SFX ?
SFX is a new library service that links database citations to full-text articles, where available, and to other related resources/services.

Who can use SFX ? Can I use it from off campus?
Current UAB students, faculty and staff may use SFX any time from any Internet connection. In-library visitors may use SFX from library work-stations. Current UAB students, faculty and staff who are accessing SFX from off campus will be required to login using their Blazer Id and password.

Sometimes there is more than one link for full text. Why?
Electronic journal collections and online journal databases sometimes provide access to the same journals. If the article or journal is available from more than one source, we provide links to all of the sources we subscribe to. Choose the database, platform you are most comfortable with and consider the other source back-up should a link be temporarily out-of-service.

Why is full text not always available?
If no full text is found, then the library does not have a subscription for the full-text of that title or the journal may not be available in an electronic format. If full text is not found, check the library catalogs to see if the libraries hold the journal title in print. If the libraries do not have the journal in print, check with a Reference Librarian for assistance, and/or request the article through Illiad.

Why does UAB have two linking services?
UAB has been given the unique opportunity to use and evaluate two competing products, both of which have been proven in the marketplace. Choose the linking service you are most comfortable with and consider the other service back-up. If you have any questions about either service, please ask a Reference Librarian for assistance (e-mail or call 205-934-6364).
